Program Overview

YOGA-yoga-tt2Infinite Light Yoga’s 500-Hr Yoga Teacher Training offers you opportunity to deepen your own yoga practice and advance your teaching skills. In this program, you’ll expand your knowledge of the core Infinite Light Yoga postures and explore additional postures that facilitate a deeper experience. You’ll learn the practical applications of pranayama & meditation techniques, deepen your understanding of the therapeutic effects of yoga, and gain the tools & principles needed for teaching special populations. Most of all, you’ll uncover your authentic teaching style, find your true voice, and step into your role as a transformational yoga teacher in our 500-hr program.

Our 500-Hour training is open to 200-hour-certified teachers from any tradition. The 500-Hour certification consists of 300 hours of advanced training that, when combined with your 200-hour training, delivers a comprehensive and advanced 500-hour certification recognized by Yoga Alliance (designation RYT-500).

The 300-Hour curriculum is offered in four modules, which can be taken in any order. Each module provides 75 hours of instruction and is designed to advance your practice, teaching skills, and repertoire.

Module 1: Yoga & the Energy Body: Meditation, Pranayama & Chakras (75 hours)

In this module, you’ll deepen and expand your knowledge of pranayama, meditation, and the energy body. You’ll explore the modern-day applications of classical yogic practices based on tantric philosophy and the teachings of Swami Kripalu. Most of all, you’ll gain valuable experience and learn practical skills in the energetics of yoga that will enable you take your teaching and practice to the next level.

The components of this module include:

  • Pranayama (kumbhaka, integrative breath work, vayus)
  • Meditation (science and practices of yogic meditation)
  • Anatomy (respiration, circulation, endocrine, nervous)
  • Energy anatomy (chakras, koshas), chanting & bija mantras
  • Tantric Philosophy and applications as outlined in the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, including the advanced practices of kumbhaka, bandhas & kriyas
  • Additional advanced postures
  • Practice teaching (facilitation & evaluation)
  • Developing better teaching through group practice and evaluated practice-teach sessions

Module 2: Yoga & the Physical Body: Anatomy, Asana & Assisting (75 hours)

In this module, you’ll gain mastery in the art of teaching asana. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of the core Infinite Light Yoga postures and explore additional postures that facilitate a deeper experience. You’ll master use of directional and anatomical language, using press point methodology to safely build postures from the ground up. You’ll also increase your ability to create an all-level experience, and to assist those with unique limitations.

The components of this module include:

  • Asanas (review and gain a deeper understanding of the 36 primary Infinite Light Yoga postures, plus additional advanced postures)
  • Assisting, modifications, variations & developing evaluation skills
  • Lesson planning (choreography, sequencing, and creating an experience)
  • Anatomy, principles of movement, proportion & orientation, physiology, common injuries and prevention, learning the essential anatomy of the hips, shoulder and spine.
  • Developing better teaching through group practice and evaluated practice-teach sessions.

Module 3: Yoga & the Art of Teaching: Creating Transformational Experiences (75 hours)

In this module, you’ll gain the skills to create classes and workshops that inspire your students and transform their lives. Informed by the ancient yogic texts, you’ll learn to apply their principles to modern life. You’ll uncover your authentic teaching style, find your true voice, and step into your role as a carrier of the Infinite Light Yoga lineage.

The components of this module include:

  • Creating transformational classes & workshops
  • Learning to use experiential language
  • Developing your authentic teaching style, creating a niche
  • Philosophy & modern day applications of the ancient texts
    • The Bhagavad Gita
    • The Hatha Yoga Pradipika
    • Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras
  • Infinite Light Yoga lineage
  • Vedic chanting, ritual & ceremony
  • Lifestyle & ethics (part 1)

Module 4: Yoga & Special Populations: Adaptive Techniques (75 hours)

In this module, you’ll gain the tools & principles needed for teaching Yoga to special populations, including those with medical conditions or disabilities. You’ll learn to modify postures to create a safe environment for your students, both in group and individual classes, and learn the basic anatomical and physiological considerations for use with specific populations. You’ll also learn how to incorporate the principles of Ayurveda and the techniques of Yoga Nidra into your teaching. These skills will enable you to increase your marketability and scope as a yoga teacher.

The components of this module include:

  • Tools and principles for teaching special populations (Note this will be an introduction to the basic principles of teaching to these populations, not a complete training in any of these areas.)
    • Prenatal yoga
    • Elder yoga
    • Restorative yoga
    • Trauma Sensitive yoga
    • Yoga for bone, back & knee conditions
    • Yoga for chronic conditions (cancer, MS, diabetes, fibromyalgia)
  • Anatomy
  • Advanced skills for working with private clients
  • Applying Yoga Nidra techniques within your classes
  • Bringing principles of Ayurveda to your teaching methodology
  • Business of yoga
  • Lifestyle & ethics (part 2)
