  • What if I want to take the training but I don't want to be a yoga teacher?

    200-Hour

You can still take the training. Some people take the training to deepen their own understanding and personal practice. There is no requirement to teach after completion but you will be qualified to teach and to be a Registered Yoga Teacher through Yoga Alliance®. If in the future you wish to teach yoga as a professional, you will have the credentials to do so. All graduates will be recognized as Certified Infinite Light Yoga Teachers at the 200-hour level. Your decision to become a Registered Yoga Teacher through Yoga Alliance® is up to you.

    500-Hour

You must be a 200-hour certified Yoga Teacher to take the 500-hr. training. This training is designed for yoga teachers who want to advance their training, but as long as you meet the pre-requisites, you can take the program to deepen your own practice and there is no requirement to teach upon completion.

  • Do I have to register with Yoga Alliance?

No, but by registering you can proudly call yourself an RYT (registered yoga teacher) recognized by Yoga Alliance®. Yoga Alliance® leads the yoga community, sets standards, fosters integrity, provides resources, and upholds the teachings of yoga. By registering with Yoga Alliance®, you can proudly use your credentials in promoting yourself as an RYT.

  • After taking this training and becoming a Yoga Teacher, will I be qualified to purchase Yoga insurance?

Yes; Yoga Teachers certified through this program will qualify to be insured as Yoga Teachers. There are several good companies that offer insurance for Yoga Teachers. We can provide you with that information upon acceptance into the program.

  • Is full participation and attendance mandatory?

200-Hour To qualify for certification, Yoga Alliance requires that there are 180 hours of actual contact in program to graduate. There are 200 actual contact hours scheduled in this training (besides the homework and home practice and weekly classes with ILY teachers). You will be expected to make up any missed sessions both in material covered and practice time in order to meet the minimum requirement to graduate if needed.

500-Hour The 500-Hour certification consists of 300 hours of advanced training that, when combined with your 200-hour training, delivers a comprehensive and advanced 500-hour certification recognized by Yoga Alliance (designation RYT-500) (For more information on designations see the Yoga Alliance website on Credentialing). To qualify for certification in a 300-hr. program, Yoga Alliance requires that you receive a minimum of 270 contact hours over the course of the entire program to graduate, and there are a minimum number of contact hours in each category of learning in order to graduate.  Therefore, you should strive to attend all training sessions. If you miss a significant amount of time in any given module, you will need to take that module over at your own expense.

  • What is a typical day in training like?

The schedule of Infinite Light Yoga Teacher Trainings is designed to provide an experiential exploration of the practices of yoga. Each day includes yoga instruction (morning sadhana), lecture, learning labs, teaching methodology, experience, and on most days you will have the opportunity to practice-teach the covered material. There are three breaks during the day including a lunch break. Given Yoga Alliance requirements, all students are required to attend and participate in all sessions.

  • What is the coursework like?

There will be regular homework assignments. You will also be expected to maintain a regular home yoga practice and take weekly yoga classes at the Infinite Light Center location or from a yoga teacher with at least a 200-hour certification (this is very important). Occasionally there will be take home assignments that will be presented or collected. Our trainings are experiential so you will be required to practice what you learn and present, lead, teach and answer questions on the topics covered every week. There is a required final teaching assignment to demonstrate that you understand and can teach the course materials. Other than the required regular yoga practice, you will be expected to spend approximately two hours between sessions reading, reviewing and researching yoga-related information as it pertains to the training; 200- or 500-hr.
